Volunteers are more valuable than gold!

Volunteering makes a truly positive impact on a community. Someone once said that volunteers are seldom paid – not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless! Volunteering is about helping others and connecting with your community. Walt Disney once noted, "The greatest moments in life are not concerned with selfish achievements, but rather with the things we do for others." Serviceleader.org lists just a few of the many possible motivations for why people volunteer:

•  to feel needed
•  to get to know a community
•  to demonstrate commitment to a cause/belief
•  to gain leadership skills
•  to do their civic duty
•  because of pressure from a friend or relative
•  satisfaction from accomplishment
•  to keep busy
•  for recognition
•  because there is no one else to do it
•  to make an impact
•  to learn something new
•  to help a friend or relative
•  for escape
•  to become an "insider"
•  guilt
•  to be challenged
•  to be a watchdog
•  to feel proud
•  to make new friends
•  to explore a career
•  to help someone
•  as therapy
•  to do something different from their job
•  for fun
•  to earn academic credit
•  to keep skills alive
•  to have an excuse to do what they love
•  to feel good
•  to be part of a team
•  to gain status
•  because they were asked
•  to build their resume
•  to be an agent of change
•  because of personal experience with the
   problem, illness, or cause

•  to stand up and be counted

No matter your reason for volunteering or the organization you choose to support …. Research has proven that volunteering increases emotional health, decreases stress and depression, and can actually help reduce aging. Volunteering will strengthen your ties to our community and is a great way to meet people with whom you share common interests. With over 250 nonprofit organizations and schools in the greater Tustin area, we’re sure you can find one that supports a cause you care about a fits into your schedule.
